The oldest public art museum in the United States, Wadsworth Atheneum's permanent collection boasts more than 40,000 works, including bronzes from Ancient Rome, Baroque paintings, 18th-century French porcelains, and much more. Set in a lovely castle-like building in the downtown area, next to Bushnell Park, the museum also features a lovely outdoor sculpture garden.
